cirkadián horizont
immersive space
A projekt egy cirkadián ritmust támogató, immerzív fény-hang installáció koncepciója, amely a természetes fény hiányára reagál zárt, ablak nélküli terekben. A rendszer a napszakokhoz igazodó cirkadián világítást egy horizont-szerű, lassan változó vizuális felülettel, cirkadián világítási rendszerrel és binaurális hangkörnyezettel egészít ki.
The project is a concept for an immersive light-and-sound installation designed to support the circadian rhythm, responding to the lack of natural light in enclosed, windowless spaces. The system complements circadian lighting that adapts to the time of day with a horizon-like, slowly changing visual interface, a circadian lighting system, and a binaural soundscape.
The project was developed within the context of a research-based, interdisciplinary design course. During the semester, the focus was on research and exploring the theoretical background, followed by visits to the psychiatric ward at Nyírő Gyula Hospital and to laboratories at Semmelweis University. These experiences provided a real spatial and institutional context for the issues under investigation and laid the groundwork for the design directions.
The lack of natural light and natural elements is particularly common in psychiatric and hospital settings. Cold, stimulus-poor spaces do not promote mental well-being, especially in cases of depression and anxiety disorders. Based on this observation, I focused on the design of hospital spaces and lighting. My goal was not merely to create a functional space, but to design an immersive experience.

Research indicates that immersive spaces can reduce stress and support nervous system regulation by stimulating multiple senses in a coordinated manner. Based on experiences in sensory rooms, the rhythm, intensity, and nature of light have a particularly strong effect on emotional state and the perception of time.
Slow, controlled changes in light and sound create a sense of safety and can contribute to re-establishing mental well-being.

Research studies have shown that binaural sounds can influence brain activity by sending two different frequencies to the auditory system. These specific frequencies and chord progressions can relieve stress, but they can also induce a high level of focus
Koncepció / Concept
A tervezési folyamat során az alapötletet a legősibb immerzív élmény, a horizont mozgása inspirálta.
A megfigyelésekből kiindulva először egy sajátos képtipológiát hoztam létre.

During the design process,
the basic concept was inspired by the oldest immersive experience of all:
the movement of the horizon. Based on my observations, I first created a typology of images.

A megvalósítás egy moduláris, LED-alapú fényrendszerre épül, amely opál diffúzor felületeken keresztül hoz létre finom, horizont-szerű fényátmeneteket. A térben emellett egy megfelelő fényintenzitású és színhőmérsékletű, a napszakokat lekövető rejtett alapvilágítás is helyet kapott.
The design is based on a modular, LED-based lighting system that creates subtle, horizon-like light transitions through opal diffuser surfaces. The space also features hidden base lighting with appropriate light intensity and color temperature that follows the time of day.

The visual experience is enhanced by a binaural and ambient soundscape. The system is capable of influencing brain activity through varying frequencies and chord progressions, inducing either deep states of relaxation or high levels of mental focus, depending on the time of day.
A projekt a 2025 őszi félév Stefan Lengyel ösztöndíj shortlistes munkái közé került.
